Making a replica of a scanned model: SCAN -> CAM
This case study looks at ways to replicate an object that was created either by scanning or made by using Photogrammetry Software when numerous photos were taken from multiple angles on a mobile phone then loaded into Autodesk Recap to generate an STL file (Mesh Geometry).
STL files describe geometry as a raw unstructured triangulated surface (i.e. polygon meshes), the actual model is made of lots of triangles which is an artefact of the given mesh geometry. It’s essential to ensure the resolution (i.e. size of each triangle) is sufficiently small to produce a much smoother surface.
